ARTIST/BAND: The DrumsGENRE: American Indie PopLATEST ALBUM/EP: Portamento While a band full of pretty boys from New York going for the whole indie/hipster vibe isn’t anything new, I’m happy to say that for the past two weeks these pretty boys from New York have been consistently on my playlist. Lately I’ve been pretty busy so I haven’t had a lot of time to study new bands or look into new albums, so I kind of stumbled upon The Drums. Their light hearted sound is perfect accompanied by their sometimes depressing lyrics, so there will be no Goo Goo Dolls tear fests happening with this one! (was I the only one…?) All in all, I reccommend checking these New Yorkers out. Speaking of New York, prepare yourself for an upcoming post about my recent trip to New York! There will be pictures, stories and more pictures! PS: Enjoy your Monday! :)
Fall is officially here in Texas & we couldn’t be more pleased. We had an apartment sale last week to clear out our clutter before we move to the left coast in a few short months & are happily taking in the changing leafy colors & cooler breezes. It is an exciting time of the year! Here are a few things on our radar at the moment; change is in the air so why not change your hair, room [or life while you are at it]?

::VINTAGE TELEPHONES
We know landlines are almost obscure these days, but these phones are so deserving that we might have to shell out the extra dough! They have such old school charm.

WE <3 FALL!! Do you have any special fall traditions? We are curious. Leave us a comment here or on our facebook page! xo
With the new Fall TV lineup, we thought it would be fun to post about our favorite television picks this season! These shows are OUR favorites, leave us a comment and let us know your thoughts and what shows you are looking forward to the most!
1] PAN AM
Both of us were sincerely impressed with the pilot for ABC’s Pan Am. They wasted no time and got right into the story line. The characters are developed pretty quickly as well, all of them like-able and interesting. If all these great attributes did not keep us, the AMAZING fashions would. Pairing their awesome clothes with their dreamy 1960s world, Pan Am is worth a watch if you have not checked it out yet!
——-
2] NEW GIRL
We have been eagerly anticipating Fox’s New Girl with one of our favorites - Zooey Deschanel! New Girl follows Liz [ZD] as she recovers from a tough breakup and moves into a new apartment with three quirky guys. Although it might lack a little creativity/not-so-smooth script, we are looking forward to the future story lines from this developing, funny sitcom. We are, however, quite annoyed that they expect us to believe that Liz is super nerdy and unattractive…. because she is totally not. DUH! She is Zooey Deschanel, or course she is not nerdy or unattractive!
——-

3] HAPPY ENDINGS
ABC’s Happy Endings is the exception to this list- it is in its second season, but I just wanted to make sure everyone knew how great this show is. The show follows a group of friends as one of the couples end their relationship… at the altar- hilarity ensues and differences are solved… until the following episode. Every actor brings something different and hilarious to the table, and I love them for it. Grab some popcorn and go to Hulu…. I promise you will not be able to watch just one episode!
——-

4] UP ALL NIGHT
I just caught the first 3 installments of this show last night, and surprisingly it is quite funny! It features Christina Applegate, Maya Rudolph & Will Arnett. Will & Christina play a married couple [Reagan & Chris Brinkley] who have an unplanned baby and attempt to adjust to this new life with their little girl Amy. So far my favorite episode was when a cool hipster couple moves in across the street & Reagan & Chris try way too hard to seem cool and end up embarrassing themselves, big time. Way cute. Maya Rudolph is pretty fantastic in her role, playing Ava, an Oprah-esque figure & talk show host that Reagan produces. Totally worth a watch, even if you are not in the kid-raising stage of life just yet!
Try not to stay on the couch too long! xo
I think it began this summer when I saw how fabulously Michelle on Bachelor Pad wore all her tees; kind of an edgy-chic look. That girl knows how to wear a t-shirt! All summer I have been searching new avenues for acquiring tees that aren’t too ‘little girl’ or just totally frumpy; I will be 26 soon, after all!
::STYLEMINT

The Olsen Twins have started StyleMint where you answer Qs & it generates a custom profile which picks [$30] tee options [& free shipping!] for your particular style.

We have mentioned them before but they really do make some great tees! Here are some of our faves [click a shirt for more info on it]:

URBAN OUTFITTERS
They always have some great options for tees - check these out:
And did you know you can now customize a shirt in their Custom Shoppe?
Happy tee hunting!
Today we thought it would be fun to showcase a few artists and musicians that are using their fame and fortune in different avenues rather than just their music. Whether it be owning their own business, fashion design, charities- we LOVE seeing people get creative with their resources.
1] Gavin DeGraw- The National Underground.
The National Underground is a music club in New York City with Americana roots that has live music seven days a week. Gavin DeGraw and his brother Joey have collaborated to make this music club and late night restaurant the popular success it is. I’m (Mary) going to NYC in two weeks, so I’m hoping to stop by and check it out!

2] Caitlin Crosby- The Giving Keys & Love Your Flawz
We’ve mentioned The Giving Keys and how much we love Caitlin Crosby before, but we wanted to introduce you to another endevour that Caitlin has teamed up with Brie Larson on- Love Your Flawz. Love Your Flawz encourages people everywhere to love themselves for who they are, we LOVE this message and appreciate all the hard work Caitlin is doing!

3] Justin Bieber- Pencils of Promise
To be clear, PoP isn’t Justins own personal organization. PoP was founded by Adam Braun, Justin’s manager Scooter Braun’s brother. PoP is an organization dedicated to providing schools in under-priviledged areas of the world. Justin has teamed up with Adam and PoP in an effort to get young people involved in personal fundraising for this amazing cause.
There are just a few artists branching out into other areas of creativity, post on our Facebook if you know of any other interesting celebs we should be following!
::TASIA’S BIRTHDAY WISHLIST::

This is not a ploy to get cool things, promise!
When you FINALLY turn 5 or FINALLY turn 10, birthdays are a celebration of surviving [I mean, thriving… yeah] through another year. You are older and proud of it, a party is thrown together for you and like magic you get to appear and enjoy everything. You show up, you get gifts, you are sung to, center of attention, get that special present you’ve been thinking about for weeks, etc. and then.. we get older. We grow up. Shouldn’t there be courses in college: BIRTHDAY FUN FOR ADULTS 101 or COPING WHILE AGING 201? When you get out of college and start speeding towards 30, birthdays are saved only by the gift-getting factor - otherwise it would just be cruel, right? I am being overly dramatic, I know!
Anyways, while formulating a list of things I am pining for, I thought I would share them with you! Christmas is creeping up, right? Some of these could be good gift ideas for others! And isn’t that the true secret to enjoying our adult years- making things about OTHERS? I believe so. Ok enough chatter, let’s look at some cute stuff.
CHEAP MONDAY MILITARIA DRESS - $100
$100, really? But it is really cute and maybe I can get it on sale. Probably not. And I have never mentioned this on WWFC, but I have a collar phobia that I am actively working towards overcoming. This very small collar would be a good step in the right direction for me!
—
SMASHBOX PHOTO FINISH PRIMER - $36
Dying to try this! If this product lives up to what I have been hearing about it, it is well worth the money. They have other primers, too. Check them out! Anyone out there use this product already?
—
JESSICA SIMPSON WALEO PUMPS - $89
I am obsessed with these pumps, the Blue Violet is my fave! They have a 5 inch heel with a 1.4 platform so you only have to endure 3.6 inches of discomfort. Love the extra height with less pain!

Super fun print, just wish it were on canvas!

ARTIST/BAND: Sleigh Bells
GENRE: Alt Pop
LATEST ALBUM/EP: Treats
If I graded albums on a number scale, 1 being the lowest and 10 being the highest, I would probably give Sleigh Bells’ Treats a solid 8. This album, released in June 2010, is one of the most unique albums released to the main stream public in the last two years. While many cringe listening to the album because of the pulsing bass lines or the majorly compressed EVERYTHING, even more people are excited and loving this new sound from the Brooklyn duo. Alexis Krauss’ vocals are soft and sweet compared to the robot tones and distortion of Derek Miller’s overdriven guitar, but somehow, some way- the combination of the two is perfect. This entire album is worth the iTunes purchase if only to play it at your next party or when you are driving down the freeway with the windows down.

If you are anything like us, September and this cooler weather is VERY exciting. Not only do we no longer have to suffer every time we walk outside, but we can now experience fall fashion for all it’s worth! Beginning with one of our favorites- leather jackets. So fashionable, so versatile. Everyone needs a leather jacket in our humble opinion!
Disclaimer: we know some of the items on this list are anything but budget friendly but they were so pretty we had to show them to you. Consider this a trip to a fashion museum?!

::KNEE HIGH BOOTS
The knee high boot was originally developed for hard labor work, generally in muddy or wet conditions outdoors. Women wore them in the early 19th century at times out of necessity given the tough conditions they lived in. Boots entered the fashion world in the 50s, but were not excepted into high fashion until the 60s & eventually became a staple in every woman’s closet by 1970. More recently [late 80s early 90s], punks in England adopted work boots [ie: Dr. Martens] into their regular style furthering its popularity. Today we have SUCH a broad range of styles within our grasp but from what I have seen the knee high boot is still under utilized & they are so much fun - get a pair!

::LAYERED BRACELETS
The beloved bracelet is almost as old as the sun! Ancient Egyptians [5000 BC] are one of the first documented civilizations to wear bracelets to remind of them of what was important [religion, spirituality]. Several ancient bracelet traditions deal with marking spring’s arrival or encouraging it [Greece & Bulgaria]. Christians in the Roman Empire wore charm bracelets with a little fish on it, a symbol of what Jesus Christ said, “I will make you fishers of men”. Germans wore mammoth tusks on bracelets, Medieval knights wore them for protection in battle. Queen Victoria may have been the first influencer to wear them for fashionable reasons, the trend spread across Europe & remained. During WWII, American soldiers brought back bracelets for their wives or wives-to-be from places they were stationed in Europe. Teenagers in the 50s & 60s began the trend of wearing charms to represent things in their lives which still exists today. A lot of our current bracelet-wear is inspired by old pirate-fashion [never thought I would be saying that, but I have to admit I would probably dress like a pirate everyday if it were socially acceptable!] which was brought to our attention through Pirates of the Caribbean. We are loving this current twist on the trend of layered bracelets. Start stocking up because this trend is just making its way!

::THE “BOB”
The “bob” hair cut has become a hairstyle staple the past few decades, but it hasn’t always been that way. Before the 1920’s, women everywhere had long, heavy hairstyles- this was traditional and respectable. But in 1915 when Irene Castle, a renowned dancer and fashion trendsetter introduced her “castle bob” to the American audience, everything changed. Actresses and film stars began cutting their hair off and by the mid-1920’s, the bob was the dominant hairstyle in the Western world. It took some time for hairdressers to catch on to this trend however, so women would line the block and wait at the barber shop to chop their long hair off. In the 1930’s however, the bob trend began to die out but was brought back to life in the 60’s when Vidal Sassoon reinvented the classic bob. Since then, the bob can be seen everywhere and is still in high demand to this day. There are now many different types of the hairstyle (asymetrical, with bangs… etc.) that it’s easy to pick your favorite so grab those cutting shears and go to town (or your hairdresser… your call)!

::BLAZERS
As previously stated in many past posts, we LOVE blazers. The blazer resembles a suit coat more casually, and is often referred to as a sports coat or a boating jacket. I remember being little and my Dad looking for his “sports coat” to put over his little sweater vests. I am very grateful this trend has evolved over time into something a little more complex than a mans “sports coat”. Types of blazers have been around since the 1800’s, but in the 60’s blazers with interesting cuts and patterns became popular. Around this time many bands started wearing blazers- The Beatles, The Kinks, The Rolling Stones and The Moody Blues (my Dad’s personal favorite). Whereas blazers and suit jackets used to be a style dominated by men, in the past years the fashion world has introduced many different colors and styles of blazers for the female population and we could not be more grateful.

I want to pause briefly from your regularly scheduled Music Monday and take a moment to acknowledge Coldplay’s new single, Paradise. Their new album, Mylo Xyloto (If you know how to pronounce this, please let me know. I sure don’t!) releases on October 24, 2011 and this perfect single has me pretty much giddy with excitement for the whole album. I had this same excitement when Viva La Vida was released and then again with Prospeks March, and was beyond thrilled with the results. I love Coldplay always and forever, and feel that Chris Martin will never disappoint me. This single confirms these feelings.
